Attended the California Technology Institute, hosted by the Ventura
County Schools Office, and trained in using the Internet, PowerPoint,
HyperStudio and other hardware and software technologies. Developed
an Internet-based class project while attending the CTAP Institute.
Applied for and received two grants for a computer, large display
and software for my classroom. Jointly ran with a fellow teacher
a weekly lunchtime tutorial program for Ventura High math and English
students.
Shorecliffs Middle School, San Clemente
8th Grade Math Teacher (9/93-6/96) Incorporated all of the California
Framework's recommendations. Attended the UCI Summer Math Institute
in August, 1995. Helped write the CORE Objectives for CUSD's middle
school math curriculum. Served on the site's Technology Committee. Attended
mentor class on using technology in the classroom in August, 1995. Member
of the first 8th grade interdisciplinary program linking English, social
science, science and math. Implemented an after-school tutorial program
for Title I students. Trained in and taught from several math replacement
units. Created technology-based lessons to complement existing units.
Practiced a variety of assessment techniques including portfolios and
writing prompts. Used manipulatives to provide hands-on learning opportunities.
El Sereno Junior High School, Los Angeles
7th & 8th Grade Math Teacher (9/92-6/93) Course structure included
portfolios, journals, cooperative learning in groups and in pairs,
a focus on application-level problem solving, and the use of manipulatives.
Worked with ELD students. Teamed with 7th grade English, science,
social science and art teachers.
